Now a days we all use Fibre optic cable for our internet or for various networking purposes like data transfer, voice and video conference or even for Television networks. But what is Fiber optic cable? What are the benefits of this cable ? let us know them in detail.
A fibre optic cable which is also known as Optic fibre cable (OFC) is a small pipe which is used to carry a light beam from one place to another place. The light which travels from one place to another place is an electromagnetic signal and can be modulated by information.
As the light has got inherent character i.e it travels with very high speeds. And the same technology is used in fiber optic cable. Hence fiber optic cable transmits high bandwidth with excellent reliability. The modulated light which travels along the fiber are converted into an electrical signal by means of photo electric cell and thus the original input signal is recovered at the far ends.
The fiber optic cable transmits light signals rather than electric signals. Each fibre has a inner core of glass or plastic that conducts light and inner core of the fiber optic cable is covered by cladding, a layer of glass that reflects the light back into the core. A cable may contain a single fiber and the fibers often bundled together in the center of the cable.
Fibre Optic Cable may be multimode or signal mode. Multimode fibres use multiple light paths whereas signal mode fibres allow a single light path and are typically used with laser signaling it has greater bandwidth.
There are Three types of fibre optic cable available. They are as follows:
01) Plastic core and cladding
02) Glass core with plastic cladding and also called as PCS Fibre or Plastic – clad silica
03) Glass core and glass cladding also known as SCS Fibre or Silica – Clad Silica
