Can you outsource motivation ? Outsourcing is a simple thought of empowering others with what you are / should have done.
In the History of Mankind, we have been observing that the Birth of an infant is outsourced to Women and this is going pretty good!
Moving now in to the journey of our life, many things we tend to outsource (letting others perform the task).
In the business sense, this comes with a price. This price has been fixed by both the willing parties.
How is that you out source motivating yourself? .Motivating myself is in that case a formidable task. What shapes, sizes that this takes place?
Can You Out Source Motivation?
We now start with the famous rocking chair syndrome. As someone has put it, the rocking chair gives you a comfort zone at the same place, but it does not take you anywhere.
Certain things are so firmly ingrained in our brought up or in the philosophy that we have grown with. To cite a simple example, a student gets a poor grade in the exams.
The blame game starts with the whole world- his/her teacher who gave a poor grade (it’s a different thing that the Teacher could go no beneath the score!), his parents, lack of sports activity, lot of interruptions, being born with a rural background and finally the God Almighty.
One can keep on cribbing about these things, cursing oneself about his misfortunes.
If we carefully observe, such people need someone’s crying shoulder. They do not want to shake themselves out of their self pity (i.e. the rocking chair).
They expect that the onus is on external party to enthuse, coax and guide them. They do not believe in self motivation.
Suppose i lean on my best friend, who says some soothing words, i rely so much on that, I hate taking any positive step – no action from my side. Expecting some outside force to motivate me /guide me is sheer escapism.
Motivation has to be from within. In continuation of my earlier tweets on, ‘falling in love with yourself’ and ‘make your own space’, as long as you do not get connected to yourself, you become an alien to yourself.
The first step is to know that no one knows you better than you! Search for the small spark in you that you have the right things in you.
Slowly nurture that and kindle it. You see a major fire that ignites you. This is your Motivation. Do not be unduly concerned about the external cues.
Do simple activities which boost you up. For instance, start an exercise regime and at least continue it for three days.
At the end of Day 3, pat yourself and buy a Toffee for yourself. That itself is enough motivation. If you are into writing, start writing a small piece.
You do not reject your work. Let others do it. Kick yourself and let no self pity be shown. Gradually increase the rigor of your routine and seek for encouragement from within and surely you walk the talk!
If you are motivated, you need not revisit the write up !
